Abstract:

This module explores how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and remote work are reshaping the world of work and career development. It introduces young job seekers to the basics of AI’s role in recruitment, and the tools available to support their job search. The module also examines the rise of remote and hybrid work models, highlighting their benefits and challenges.

Learners will gain an understanding of the essential digital and soft skills needed to thrive in technology-driven workplaces, alongside strategies for continuous learning and upskilling. Ethical and social considerations, including AI bias, digital divides, and responsible technology use, are discussed to foster thoughtful career decisions. By understanding these changes, young people can approach their careers confidently and adapt to a future where human skills and technology work hand in hand.

This module is designed to give you a solid foundation for the job search process, helping you feel prepared and confident without unexpected surprises along the way. Throughout the module, you’ll find key tips and common pitfalls to avoid, making it easier to navigate each stage.

You’ll explore practical tools and strategies for identifying job opportunities, understanding job ads, writing strong CVs and cover letters, and preparing for interviews. We also cover what comes next—how to handle rejection professionally and what steps to take if you receive a job offer.

Abstract: This module, “Recognizing Personal Competencies and Potential,” is the third part of the HIRE-FIRE training series, establishing self-understanding as the core foundation for career success. It shifts job-seeking from a passive search to a proactive, self-directed adventure.

The content provides practical tools for young professionals to identify and articulate their professional value, focusing on the clear distinction between Talents, Skills, and Competencies. Key areas covered include: flexible Career Planning through scenario creation and micro-experiments; managing Job Insecurity by diversifying skills and understanding employee rights; building a robust Support Network through active engagement; and the conscious use of Psychometric Tests for self-reflection. Ultimately, the module champions a Growth Mindset to ensure continuous learning and adaptability in the face of career challenges.

Abstract: This module explores the psychological, social, and cultural aspects of young adults’ transition from education to employment. It examines how personal aspirations interact with the structural realities of today’s labor market and how social comparisons, generational narratives, and digital culture shape expectations about work. Drawing on the concepts of the protean and self-directed career (Hall, 1996; Briscoe & Hall, 2006) and research on person–environment fit (Edwards et al., 2006), it encourages reflection on individual values, self-awareness, and adaptive career strategies. The module aims to help young people redefine what a “good job” means, build self-direction in their career choices, and navigate uncertainty through informed, value-based decisions.
